Automatic Fire Door

1.
General System Description

Coiling Fire Doors are rated physical fire barriers that protect wall openings from the spread of fire. They provide automatic closing in the event of fire detection with governed speed control. Fire doors are also designed for daily use to provide security and access control. UL classified up to 4 hours.

Features

Mounting:

Interior Face-Of-Wall mounting on Masonry jambs.

Curtain:

Made of interlocking steel flat slats No. 5F with 22 gauge. Slats are galvanized per ASTM A 653 with zinc coating.

Curtain Finish: Phosphate treatment followed by Light Gray backed-on polyester enamel coating, minimum 0.6 mils (0.015 mm) cured film thickness.

Endlocks/Windlocks:

Interlocking sections are fitted with high strength endlocks on alternate slats each secured with two ¼ inch (6.35 mm) rivets. Endlocks built to maintain slat alignment and to withstand 20 PSF windload.

Bottom Bar:

Two 2 x 2 x 1/8 inches (50 x 50 x 3.2 mm) structural steel angle fitted with replaceable vinyl gasket extending into guides.
Bottom Bar Finish: Phosphate treatment followed by Light Gray backed-on polyester powder coating, minimum 2.5 mils (0.065 mm) cured film thickness.

Guides:

Fabricated with minimum 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) structural steel angles. Top of inner and outer guide angles to be flared outward to form a bellmouth for smooth entry of curtain into guides. Top of the guides are fitted with removable stoppers to prevent over travel of curtain and bottom bar.
Guides Finish: Phosphate treatment followed by Light Gray backed-on polyester powder coating, minimum 2.5 mils (0.065 mm) cured film thickness.

Counterbalance Shaft Assembly:

Barrel: Steel pipe capable of supporting curtain load with maximum deflection of 0.03 inches per foot (0.22 mm per meter) of door width.
Spring Balance: Oil-tempered, heat-treated steel helical torsion spring assembly designed for proper balance of the door to ensure that maximum effort to operate will not exceed 25 Ibs (110N). Fitted with wheel for applying and adjusting spring torque.

Brackets:

Fabricated from minimum 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) steel plate with permanently lubricated ball bearings at rotating support points to support counterbalance shaft assembly and form end closures.
Brackets Finish: Phosphate treatment followed by Light Gray backed-on polyester powder coating, minimum 2.5 mils (0.065 mm) cured film thickness.

Hood:

Coil cover (the hood) is made of 24 gauge galvanized steel with reinforced top and bottom edges. In wider doors, steel intermediate support brackets are required with minimum ¼ inch (6.35 mm) to prevent excessive sag.
Hood Finish: Phosphate treatment followed by Light Gray backed-on polyester enamel coating, minimum 0.6 mils (0.015 mm) cured film thickness.

Automatic Closure:

All FireGard doors close automatically (without motor) on temperature rise. Automatic closure shall be activated by fusible link (standard fusible links melt @ 160 degrees F.). When automatic closing is activated, integral brake and operator will be disengaged and an integral governor controls closing speed. Doors shall maintain an average closing speed of not less than 6” (152 mm) nor more than 24” (610 mm) per second during automatic closing per NFPA 80.

Operation:

Cornell Operator Model MGH (SGH) , high starting torque with overload protection (bracket mounted) rated 1/3, 1/2, 3/4, 1 or 2 HP, 230 Volts, Single Phase or 380 Volts (Three Phase), 50 Hz. Complete with totally enclosed motor and factory pre-wired motor controls, solenoid actuated brake, emergency manual chain hoist, and 3-button OPEN/CLOSE/STOP control station.

3.
Option

M100 FS Series Motor, UL listed and FM approved, NEMA 1 type enclosure rated 1/3, 1/2, 3/4, 1 or 2 HP, 230 Volts, Single Phase or 380 Volts (Three Phase), 50 Hz. Open drip-proof motor, removable without affecting setting of limit switches; UL listed thermal overload protection; solenoid brake; planetary reduction gearing and rotary limit switches; transformer with 24 V control secondary.

Safety sensor with full width of the door and all integral electrical components pre-wired to terminal blocks.

Automatic closure is activated by fusible link (or a central smoke/fire alarm system). Doors will not require a releasing device when activated by an alarm signal. Doors will maintain an average closing speed of not more than 9” (229 mm) per second during automatic closing. When automatic closure is activated, push button is inoperable. Doors will be fail-safe and close upon power failure.

Resetting of spring tension or mechanical dropouts will not be required. Upon restoration of power, replacement of fusible link or clearing of the alarm signal, doors will immediately reset by opening with the push button (3-button OPEN/CLOSE/STOP control station.
